About Marsh Gibbon village

Marsh Gibbon, although located in Aylesbury Vale in Buckinghamshire, lies close to the border with Oxfordshire. It is situated to the north of the A41 Aylesbury to Bicester road, approximately four miles to the east of Bicester. It has a population of just over nine hundred. It was traditionally a farming village, but in recent years the number of active farms has decreased and many of the people living in the village now work in places such as Bicester, Aylesbury, Oxford, Milton Keynes and some even commute to London.

Marsh Gibbon has one shop - a Post Office/General Stores in Station Road. The village has two public houses - The Greyhound in West Edge and The Plough in Church Street. Marsh Gibbon C of E School - www.marshgibbonschool.co.uk - in Castle Street is a thriving first school, with approximately 100 children, aged between 4 and 9. A busy Pre-School group also meets every morning in the Village Hall. The village has 3 churches - St Mary’s Church of England in Station Road, the United Reformed Church in Tompkins Lane and the Highway Christian Church, which meets on Sunday mornings in the Village Hall in Clements Lane.

Other facilities in the village include a Village Hall, a Recreation Ground with football and cricket pitches, tennis courts, children’s play equipment and a 5-a-side pitch.

There are many clubs and societies that meet regularly in the village - these include the Marsh Gibbon Silver Band, the Horticultural Society, the Tennis Club, the W.I., the Badminton Club, Cubs, Beavers and Brownies (previously also Scouts) - these groups meet at either the Village Hall or in the URC Schoolroom. In addition there are the Cricket Club and the Football Club that have their pitches and a pavilion at the Recreation Ground in Summerstown.
